Dielectric response of spherical particles of graded materials

چکیده
We have studied the effective response of composites of spherical particles with a dielectric profile which varies along the radius of the particles. We developed a differential effective dipole theory to compute the dipole moment of individual spherical particle and hence the effective dielectric response of a dilute suspension. The theory has been applied to two model dielectric profiles. Moreover, we compare the approximate results with the exact results of the power-law profile and the agreement is excellent. Dielectric response of graded spherical particles of anisotropic materials
Anisotropic dielectric response occurs naturally due to the presence of gradation, like in functionally graded materials or graded biological cells. However, these materials with locally anisotropic dielectric responses can have macroscopically isotropic responses. In treating graded particles of anisotropic materials, traditional isotropic gradation methods need to be modified. In this work, w...

متن کاملSecond-harmonic generation in graded metal–dielectric films of anisotropic particles
We investigate theoretically the effective second-harmonic generation (SHG) susceptibility in graded films of metal–dielectric random composites with anisotropically shaped particles by invoking the local field effects. Using numerical examples, we demonstrate that in the presence of gradation profiles and/or shape effects, graded metal–dielectric films could be used as novel optical materials ...

– We have derived the local electric field inside graded metal-dielectric composite films with weak nonlinearity analytically, which further yields the effective linear dielectric constant and third-order nonlinear susceptibility of the graded structures. As a result, the composition-dependent gradation can produce a broad resonant plasmon band in the optical region, resulting in a large enhanc...
متن کاملMultipole polarizability of a graded spherical particle
We have studied the multipole polarizability of a graded spherical particle in a nonuniform electric field, in which the conductivity can vary radially inside the particle. The main objective of this work is to access the effects of multipole interactions at small interparticle separations, which can be important in non-dilute suspensions of functionally graded materials. The nonuniform electri...
